Professor Seishiro Okazaki opened his own dojo (school) in Hawaii in 1920. He was a master at many martial arts but he also developed a massage therapy that he had his students practice on each other before exercises. This was 90 years ago. His followers have taught and practiced this technique in their dojos all these years later. His Restoration Massage and Therapy was more than massage -- it was designed to quickly discover and treat injuries, invigorate the body and improve performance. It does the same today. In Japanese Okazaki referred to his massage as "Restore to Alignment" or Seifukujitsu.
I was trained in Okazaki’s massage style 22 years ago by Professors Sig Kufferath and Tony Janovich in Santa Clara, CA They represent the 2nd and 3rd generations of Okazaki’s work. Sig was Okazaki's student and chief instructor until Okazaki's death in 1951.
The forearm and hand techniques of this style are not only different from most other modalities but the style is uncommon and unknown to the general public. Training is usually offered to Martial Arts students only. Luck and persistence led to my being trained in this old and special art.
